Chapter 7

“I’d Love To Have A Big Round Ass.”

Monday morning Willow was at her desk bright and early. Only two other people were in the office at this hour, and the quiet was unnerving.

She needed some noise to keep her mind off of the upcoming procedure. Just like the day of her expected promotion, Willow was much too eager to sleep.

This week she would say goodbye to her old self…well, almost. First, she had to do the evaluation with the nurse and fill out enough paperwork to buy a new house; that was set up for this Friday. Assuming all went well, two weeks later her surgery would be performed and her new life would begin.

If that wasn’t enough to keep her on edge, she also had a major task to complete. Speak with Paul about the necessary time off.

Not only did Nuvo schedule her appointment with the nurse, but they also chose a tentative date for her surgery, pending approval of her evaluation, of course.

Which meant she could provide Paul with the dates she would need off for healing. After a quick check of the calendar, she realized that once the six weeks were up, her full expected recovery date landed on a Wednesday.

Two days before the children’s charity event, she was attending with Naomi. That would be Willow's first official event as the new her, and it felt surreal.

For most of the morning, Willow worked without interruption. The only person to stop by her desk was the janitor. He scanned her with dark, mysterious eyes and moved on to the next cubicle.

At noon Willow made her way to Paul’s office. After that, she would stop by Gwen's office downstairs and apologize for forgetting about their meet-up at Daley’s.

Paul’s office door was open, so after a quick knock, Willow stepped inside.

"Hi, Paul."

"Willow! I hope your time off was good, and you’re feeling better about everything?"

Willow ignored his attempt at downplaying his disloyalty and got straight to the point.

"Remember when I said I would need some additional time off? Well, I’m going to need six weeks, starting two weeks from now."

"Six weeks?" Paul leaned back in his chair and whistled. "That’s a tall order. What do you need it for?"

She could refuse to share, stating personal reasons, but he would find out soon enough. "Cosmetic surgery."

Paul's brows lifted.

Then he said, "I don’t have anyone to cover you for that long, sorry."

She took a deep breath and stood taller. She never took vacation days and barely took a day off or called in sick. "Maybe, you and Zoey could do it?" she challenged.

He studied her. Willow felt like an ant waiting for Paul’s shoe to come down and squish her confidence and her opportunity to physically upgrade herself.

Damn it! He’s going to say no. I overstepped, and now once again, I’m screwed.

But, instead of declining her request, a slow smile spread over his face.

"I guess I at least owe you that much, don’t I?"

It was Willow’s sentiments exactly, but she remained silent.
